What’s Made Ty Jerome Successful on the Cleveland Cavaliers?
The journeyman guard has been a big part of why the Cavs started 12-0.
When Cleveland Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman referred to Ty Jerome as the “MVP of September” during his pre-training camp media availability, eyebrows were raised.
Jerome played 15 total minutes last season due to an ankle injury that resulted in season-ending surgery. When attempting to forecast what the rotation would look like under new head coach Kenny Atkinson prior to the season, leaving Jerome out of it wasn’t a crazy idea. It wasn’t clear where he would fit in, or if he would fit in at all.
Instead, all he’s done is stand out in the Cavs' first 12 games of the season. In the perfect start, multiple games – New Orleans, Brooklyn, and Chicago – aren’t wins without his contributions coming off the bench.
Those contributions have come on both ends of the floor.
Offensively, he hasn’t been confined to one role. He’s spent time leading the second unit, playing alongside starters, knocking down open shots from deep, and running the pick-and-roll better than anyone else in the NBA.
